US President Donald Trump has withdrawn the personal protection of his former Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo. “If you have protection, you can’t have it for the rest of your life,” said the Republican. “I mean, everything has risks.”
The American president had previously withdrawn the personal protection of former adviser John Bolton. However, according to media reports, there are threats against both Bolton and Pompeo. For example, Pompeo is threatened by Iran because of the measures he took against the government during his tenure.
In contrast to Bolton, Pompeo is still considered a loyal Trump supporter. The 61-year-old was considered the American defense minister, but TV presenter Pete Hegseeth received the post. Hegseeth is not popular with everyone in the Republican party. Two senators recently expressed himself clearly against him.
“Significant worries” about Hegseeth
“The head of the Ministry of Defense must demonstrate and model the behavioral and character standards that we expect from all soldiers,” said Lisa Murkowski. However, the appointment of Hegseeth for this function evokes great concerns that it cannot ignore. For example, she referred to the lack of experience of the former soldier and what signal could give his appointment to female soldiers. He had previously said that women were of no use in combat operations.
The TV presenter is also accused of having committed and drank sexual abuse in the past.
