Arrests for protest – Turkish cities make a demonstration ban on

Date:

In Turkey, the third day in a row was protested for the arrested mayor of Istanbul Ekrem Imamoglu on Friday in a row. This played an important role in massive demonstrations against the Erdogan government in 2013. Some cities such as Istanbul and Ankara have now banned a demonstration.

“Turkey will not come out of the way of the road,” said President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The opposition party CHP loses “her status as a party acting on a legitimate political basis”. For Friday, Imamoglus mentioned supporters in different cities to demonstrate. Extra road barriers have been announced in Istanbul, for example in the street for the city council.

In addition, demonstration marks were imposed in Istanbul, the capital Ankara, Izmir and the province of Manisa for several days. According to the Ministry of the Interior, 53 people have been arrested in the protests in recent days. 16 police officers were injured.

Critical contributions are sufficient for arrest
More than 80 people were arrested on online platforms due to critical contributions. They would “have been initiated by crimes,” said Turkish Minister of the Interior Yerlikaya. Access to platforms such as X, YouTube, Instagram, Signal and WhatsApp from Istanbul was not possible about 42 hours.

Imamoglu is considered one of the most promising rivals by the long -term president Erdogan. He was arrested in his house after a raid on Wednesday. In addition to him, more than a hundred other people such as employees and members of the opposition were arrested. On Sunday, Imamoglu had to be officially nominated for the candidate of his party for the upcoming presidential election.

University diploma needed for candidacy
The 53-year-old is accused of corruption and extortion. The Ministry of Justice announced that he also had connections with the Forbidden Workers’ Party Kurdistan (PKK). The mayor had already been withdrawn on Tuesday due to alleged errors. This can now finally be excluded from a candidacy, because a university degree in Turkey is a condition.
