The world is currently looking at Oman’s desert state. Because the United States and Iran are currently debating its controversial nuclear program.
US President Donald Trump offered Iran direct negotiations on a new nuclear agreement last month and at the same time threatened with military consequences if Tehran would not agree to a limitation of his nuclear program. After day -long consultation, Tehran eventually agreed – especially to reach the end of the sanctions that are mainly imposed by the United States.
The sanctions are an important reason for the currently abandoned economic situation of Iran. The core of the dispute is that Western governments fear the construction of an atomic bomb.
Conversations in separate halls
At the start of the dialogue with the mediation of the sultanate, two delegations started their work in the Capital Maskat, as a spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote on the Platform X. The conversations therefore take place in separate halls, where the Oman acts as an intermediary and communicates the messages between the pages.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi came for the Iranian side. Tehran still talks about indirect negotiations with the American specialist for the Midden -East, Steve Witkoff, while in Washington it spoke about direct contact between the two diplomats.
Araqchi was number two of the Iranian delegation in the latest nuclear negotiations so far between 2013 and 2015. The Oman has not yet commented on the nuclear discussions as a discreet intermediary.
