The French right-wing populist Marine Le Pen, convicted of incorrectly understood EU money, continues to fight for a start in the next presidential election. But at the moment she is being banned with a five -year candidate. On the other hand, it takes different levels – including at the European Court of Human Rights. She had to take a defeat there now.
The judges of the Strasbourg have unanimously rejected the le pen application because the politician of the racial national national has not threatened any restrictions protected by the Human Rights Convention, the Court said. A French court sentenced the 56-year-old politician to four years in prison for embezzlement of EU funds and a five-year ban on candidacy. It is the most controversial part of the punishment.
Time runs against Le Pen
This punishment was taken into effect immediately – unlike a prison sentence, which was based on a probationary period, although Le Pen appealed against the judgment. The Court of Appeal made a decision next summer.
However, Le Pen cannot wait that long because she wants to get involved in the pre -election campaign as actively as possible. That is why the RN politician sees the risk of non-solving damage.
The upcoming presidential elections in which Le Pen wanted to walk is regularly in 2027. In the meantime, the 56-year-old, however, asked her political pull son Jordan Bardella to prepare for a candidacy in the event that she cannot compete.
Raid in Feesthoofdkwartier
Le Pens Party is still in the sights of the judiciary. Financial researchers searched the party head office on Wednesday. As the Public Prosecution Service of Paris said, there are indications of illegal financing of the 2022 presidential election, the parliamentary election campaign 2022 and the European election campaign 2024. A corresponding investigation was started a year ago.
The investigation should clarify whether these election campaigns were mainly financed by illegal loans from private individuals who would benefit the party or candidates from the RN. In addition, it was about excessive invoices for services or invoices for fictitious services that were later included in the applications for a flat reimbursement of the campaign costs, the public prosecutor reported. In addition to the party’s head office, the head office of various companies and the home of the managing directors of these companies was searched.
