Twelve sailors from the region have an appointment in Bayonne

Date:

The crews of the ‘Nemox-BNFIX’ and the ‘Kawan’ will compete in the first Spanish Cruise Championship from today

Regional sailing will be well represented this weekend at the first Spanish Cruise Championship – State Lotteries and Bets Trophy, taking place from today to Sunday at the Monte Real Club de Yates de Baiona (MRCYB). More than 100 sailors, divided into 18 teams representing twelve autonomous communities, are quoted in this test. The crews of the ‘Nemox-BNFIX’, of the Cartagena Regatta Club, and the ‘Kawan’, of the CN La Isleta (La Manga) will defend regional sailing.

Organized by the Spanish Federation, in collaboration with the MRCYB and the Galician Federation, this championship is committed to a structure that rewards participation in the territorial calendar and encourages competition between amateur teams. “The different teams, represented by each territory, will enjoy a competition designed to promote and socialize cruising in Spain,” said a spokesman for the Spanish Federation.

The sailors will sail in the First Class Figaro Solo one-design fleet of the Monte Real Club de Yates, a Finot-Berret signed boat measuring 9.14 meters in length and 3.25 in beam, with nearly 140 square meters sail area (major, Genoa and spinnaker). Its technical features make it a perfect little cruiser to be crewed by the six sailors who make up each team. The crews will compete in one of the units that make up the MRCY fleet through a rigorous draw that will take place every day. This new competition system, which crowns Spain’s best cruise ship team, is a commitment to equality and an additional challenge for sailors, who are used to sailing their own boat and often in corrected time.

The crews were introduced to the Figaros yesterday on a training day ahead of the scoring regattas, which begin today. In order to give the regattas more agility with the same chances for all participants, the 18 teams are divided into three groups by drawing lots, without allowing the two boats of a community in the same group to coincide.

One of the main novelties of the competition is that thanks to the sponsorship of Loterías y Apuestas del Estado, as well as the financial support of the Spanish Federation, the participants do not have to pay registration fees and that their stay in Bayonne is covered by the organizers of the regatta .

The hue will be seen in the sea where all teams will wear custom lycras according to the autonomous community they represent. It should also be noted that, in addition to the national title, the winner of the championship will receive recognition for the best autonomy in Spain for their territory.

The success of the proposal translates not only in a high participation in this first edition, 18 crews from 12 territorial, but also in the fact that these crews are made up of amateur sailors, teams that regularly sail in their club regattas and who now have the opportunity to measure your skills with others from different parts of Spain. The Canary Islands, Cantabria, the Valencian Community, Galicia, Murcia and the Basque Country will be represented by two crews, while Andalusia, the Autonomous City of Melilla, Castilla La Mancha, Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and the Principality of Asturias will have only one representative.
