Silence reaches agreement to move into Nissan facilities in Barcelona

Date:

Since January 1, more than 1,300 direct Nissan employees are waiting for the reindustrialization process to end after the car company leaves the Free Zone

Trade and Employment Secretary Roger Torrent has announced that Silence management and Nissan’s works councils have reached an agreement to “unlock” the company’s landing in the factories the car company occupied.

The agreement allows “the hiring of a large proportion of workers” who have been out of work after Nissan’s shutdown, he explained to the government during the monitoring session in response to an ERC question about reindustrialization.

The minister has assured that the agreement will protect the jobs of these workers for years to come: “Thanks to the work done by the agents who sat at the reindustrialization table, we are convinced that Nissan’s reindustrialization process – and today’s news is a test – it will end successfully and we will manage to maintain industrial continuity and, most importantly, jobs«.

Just this Wednesday, some 500 Nissan workers, according to the Barcelona City Guard, demonstrated this Wednesday in the Catalan capital against the “delays” in the process of re-industrialization of the car factories. Miguel ngel Boiza of CC.OO. He explained that for the delay of deadlines, they manifest themselves “again and again” because of the lack of desire of the administrations.

They have demanded that the tender for the management of the land, which they want to have in their hands in the coming days, be put out to tender, and they hope that the specifications will give us space for a logistics project.

Boiza has explained that it has to be launched between this and next week, and then there will be one month for the candidates to come out and another to make the decision.

“We can go at the end of July or the beginning of August. This delay is due to their fault, as they have been unemployed for a month and a half,” he added.

And he has criticized that at the same time there are “many interests” in advancing logistics on the land, while they believe that industrial re-industrialization must be done in order not to forget indirect jobs.

Boiza explained that they have a preliminary agreement with Silence on terms of employment and that it is now necessary to “ensure that everything is in order” for the company to occupy the country.

He recalled that it is a small project within all the square meters available at the Zona Franca factory, and that the most important is the electromobility hub.

“It’s the one we want to get off the ground, and it’s with the issuance of the tender. Silence is good news, it may be the start of hiring, but it will solve the problem for us, the problem will be solved by a big project,” he added.

Since January 1, more than 1,300 direct workers have been waiting for the re-occupation process to end.
