Spain will be the first European country to launch the Mobilize Limo, an electric sedan that Mobilize, Renault’s mobility services division, intends to make available to taxi fleets only through a subscription model.
The company that has chosen these vehicles is Cabify Spain, which will receive 40 units of the model for its own fleet (called Vecttor).
These will be in use from Junebefore the originally scheduled September.
One of the advantages, according to the director of this business unit —and also of the brand in Spain—
Sebastien Guigues, is that the subscription model offers “absolute flexibility” to customers. In principle, they will not have a minimum run time and the aim is for the Slimes to circulate for as long as possible.
When it comes to returning them, Renault itself will be responsible for reconditioning the vehicles —Guigues said an ideal facility to carry out these operations will be the Refactory in Seville, which will be operational from September.
Cabify plans all of its trips to be zero-emissions by 2025, but its current share is just 4.1%. The Limo will initially be available through the Cabify Eco category, which will receive only clean vehicle service and will initially only be available for the operator’s business solutions. The coverage is expected to be expanded at a later date.
The centers responsible for the maintenance of the Mobilize fleet will be some of the subsidiaries (Renault Retail Group) with which the brand has in Madrid, such as the one on Avenida de Burgos, where the presentation took place.
The Limo is a sedan made in China with a range of 450 kilometers. According to the brand’s estimates, each of them in the fleet represents a saving of nine tons of CO2, compared to the emissions of a combustion taxi.
The agreement between Mobilize and Cabify also includes exclusivity between them. Guigues stressed that “we wanted to avoid surprises in the first phase of the project, so we decided to go hand in hand with the leader of the ride hailing”.
In the future, it is envisaged that Limo subscriptions will be offered to other VTC companies or independent taxi drivers operating within the Cabify umbrella.
These contracts will not take effect until early next year and will be managed through Mobilize Financial Services, the group’s financial arm, formerly known as RCI. The French consortium expects mobility services to account for 20% of its turnover by 2030.
