Violent storm on Thursday afternoon in Styria! Around 4 p.m., 40,000 households were without electricity, guest gardens were destroyed, objects flew through the air in Graz, among others. The A 9 is closed towards Graz after the Gleinalm tunnel.

Suddenly the sky turned black over Styria, a strong storm opened. The storm found its way from Murau via Judenburg, Knittelfeld and Köflach to Graz.

Various private gardens and balconies were destroyed in the capital of the state, and the guest gardens of popular restaurants in the city center were also hit. According to the Ubimet, 139 km/h was measured in Neuarkt, in Graz it was around 90 km/h.

But that was not the only problem: as Energiiteyria reported, around 40,000 households were without electricity around 4 p.m. The “crown” of the “Kroon” can be reported on power outages throughout municipalities. Stainz, Wildon, Gössendorf, many municipalities of Schladming via the Murtal to Graz are affected, among other things.

“We are busy repairing the damage,” says Urs Harnik, spokesperson for Energie Stiermark. The main reason for the power outages are fallen trees. It could also have been injured. In the city center of Graz, a person was probably hit by an object on the head and supplied by the Red Cross.

There was also a power failure at the MotoGP in Zeltweg. Heavy rain flooded the race track.

Blocked traffic in various places
There were problems on the street in both Styria and Carinthia. The A9 is blocked in the area of ​​the Gleinalm point point because a tree has fallen on the road. The electricity failed in the tunnel. Traffic op lanes are made by distractions via Bruck/Mur.

In Graz there was an accident on St. Peter Main Road by bus and a tree fell on a car in Wiener Strasse.

Train traffic is also at long distances. The ÖBB reports countless storm damage.

Different injuries in Carinthia
Heavy storms also touch Carinthia on Thursday afternoon. The region around a bathing lake in St. Andrä in the Lavanttal was particularly hard hit. A number of trees fell, according to “Krone” information, there were several injured people – including children!
