Max (name changed) passed away in September 2020 – just 16 years old. It turned out that the boy had used narcotics before. In the sixth and final installment of the “Krone” series, the deceased’s parents lament: Certain doctors are particularly fond of prescribing psychotropic drugs, and silence is a common practice.
A doctor is convicted of prescribing large amounts of the painkiller fentanyl. A pharmacist too, because he generously distributed the sleeping pill Zoldem. And a public health official is suspected of having developed too loose a relationship with drivers with THC-induced restrictions.
“The trade in official substitution drugs, painkillers and benzodiazepines on the black market has long been known to be thriving. But whoever thinks that only certain drug addicts earn change by smuggling medicines and that doctors fall for their tricks, is wrong”, says the father of the deceased Max.
“Insiders know very well which doctors in Tyrol are especially fond of prescribing psychotropic drugs – their opponents call them ‘killers in white’. The generous allocation of 50 milligrams of Anxiolit to residents of the Mentlvilla in Innsbruck is also known, otherwise this would medicine cannot be bought there so easily and regularly, but how can this kind of solidarity with drug addiction be explained?”
Since the pandemic, doctors have been known to interpret the Hippocratic Oath very differently, the Tyrolean emphasizes. It is also known that through the stresses of everyday professional life, doctors are easily befriended by neuro-enhancement – that is the attempt of healthy people to improve their mental performance by taking psychoactive substances.
Misunderstood solidarity with the addicts
Of course, compassion for drug addicts will come into play. “This misunderstood solidarity is what doctors share with other professionals who work with drug addicts of all ages. Such phenomena make it possible to draw the above conclusions, ranging from presumptuous to adapting one’s own appearance to that of the client. Here it is the tacit acknowledgment of the client’s appearance that suggests such a relationship.”
The use of drugs helps to forget everyday life – at least here the group feeling still emerges, even if it has been bought. You feel sorry for breaking the rules anyway.
“You don’t want to stab politicians in the back”
“That’s why doctors and other experts are silent about everything you should really know after a few years of working in this environment. They are also nonchalant towards the politically responsible, they do not want to stab them in the back and certainly not endanger the job. You work with care concepts that you know very well can’t work at all without structuring day and night care, so you endure the stagnation of young people when they can’t find work and prefer to chill at Landhausplatz or in their storm-free stall – well catered for by shopping in Mentlvilla”, criticizes the local.
From the perspective of parents who have lost their child, this tacit acceptance is part of cynical reason. “A drug counselor said to me, ‘When you consider what the boys and girls put in, pretty little happens.'”
For two years now, the “Tiroler Krone” has been listening to families with young or older children with drug problems. We now have a six-part series dedicated to Max’s tragic case.
