Von der Leyen: – ‘Sanctions are the price for the trail of Putin’s death’

According to Ursula von der Leyen, head of the European Commission, Russia cannot expect EU sanctions to be lifted in the foreseeable future. “I want to leave no doubt that the sanctions will last,” the German said in her speech on the state of the European Union in Strasbourg on Wednesday.

Before the eyes of Olena Zelenska, the wife of the Ukrainian President, who also sat in the EU Parliament, the Commission President emphasized: “This is the Prize for Putin’s trail of death and the Destruction.” Europe has been busy since day one the side the Ukraine and will continue to do so in the long term. The statement is based on the State of the Nation Speech, which is considered one of the most important speeches by the US President. After the speech, a debate with MEPs is planned. It is the third speech of this kind for von der Leyen, the German has been President of the European Commission since 1 December 2019.
