Incarcerated since 1971 – Manson disciple: pardoned 15 times

Date:

Patricia Krenwinkel, the former follower of cult leader Charles Manson, remains behind bars. A pardon request was rejected for the 15th time on Friday. Krenwinkel has been in prison in California since 1971. She is the longest serving inmate in the history of the California prison system.

California Governor Gavin Newsom vetoed a decision by the Parolees Commission on Friday. Krenwinkel “fully supported Manson’s racist, apocalyptic ideologies,” Newsom explained.

‘Krenwinkel has made an important contribution to tragedy’
The commission said in May that Krenwinkel could be pardoned, but under California law, the governor has a veto. “Krenwinkel was not only a victim of Manson’s abuse, she also played a major role in the violence and tragedy that became the legacy of the ‘Manson family,'” Newsom said.

Seven people killed
Notorious American cult founder and convicted murderer Charles Manson died in 2017. The leader of the ‘Manson Family’ he founded was convicted in 1971 along with four of his followers – including Krenwinkel – for the murder of seven people, including Sharon. Tate, the actress and heavily pregnant wife of director Roman Polanski.

The “Manson Family” was founded in California in the 1960s and lived a secluded life in the desert. Seeing in himself a rebirth of Jesus Christ, Manson instigated a series of murders to provoke a war between whites and blacks in the United States.
