The unmanned transporter “Cygnus”, loaded with about 3,700 kilograms of food for the crew and materials for scientific experiments, has reached the ISS space station. A robotic arm from the station captured the spacecraft Wednesday as planned (see video above), NASA said.
Previously, a solar panel on the “Cygnus” did not unfold as intended, but the maneuver still worked. The reasons for the incident are under investigation, NASA said.
18. Supply Flight of the Cargo Ship “Cygnus”
The “Cygnus” was launched Monday from a spaceport in the US state of Virginia. A first launch attempt on Sunday had previously been delayed due to a fire alarm at the Northrop Grumman control center. It is the 18th resupply flight of the cargo ship “Cygnus” to the ISS.
Plant seeds from Vienna on board
Plant seeds were also shipped with the freighter. The sender is the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). After their sojourn in space, the seeds will grow at the jointly operated research center in Seibersdorf, Lower Austria, according to the IAEA.
