How dangerous is Krems city center? Even before the municipal elections, vandalism and acts of violence were a much-discussed topic. Bar and nightclub operators are also talking about an increasingly serious drug problem. The “Krone” spoke to bouncers about the drug scene and violent excesses in the entertainment district.
In Krems town hall, no one wanted to know about increasing vandalism and pre-election security problems, and questions about an alleged drug problem even spoke of character assassination. The police, but especially their statistics, supported the city’s statements, but the most recent incidents paint a different picture.
Less than 100 meters from the town hall, a 21-year-old was almost beaten to death by three men. In Café Berger, the landlord was beaten because he no longer wanted to give a drunkard a beer and at the Simandl fountain a passer-by was attacked out of the blue. All of this happened – as reported – in recent weeks.
The “Krone” has therefore recently asked nightclub operators and bouncers again, discovered something worrying – and also asked those responsible in politics about possible solutions.
