A disturbing video from Thailand shows what happens when a ride’s safety bar malfunctions: The operator of the “Crazy Wave” attraction at a folk festival in the resort town of Krabi forgot to close one of the bars properly. Five people were thrown from the ride, including five children.
The accident happened just after the ride started moving. Only the center part of the platform was hit. A 34-year-old who was lifted out and thrown to the ground broke her arm and pelvis.
Four children also hit the ground hard – they were between the ages of 10 and 15 and were taken to hospital along with the injured adults. However, the young victims of the accident were quickly released. “The injured woman still needs to be treated at the hospital. We are waiting for her medical certificate before she can press charges against the owner,” said a police officer.

Police are investigating – The owner of the ride claimed, according to The Thailand Post, that one of his employees forgot to close the central safety bar. “The ride owner has accepted his negligence and has agreed to pay all of the victims’ hospital bills. We also check whether it is punishable by law,” said the police.
