A witness observed dramatic scenes from his office in Vienna on Monday morning. In a room in the hotel across the street, a man hit another man. The witness alerted the police.
After raising the alarm, officials went to the site of the event, Europaplatz in Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus. The victim had managed to escape and ran into the street. The 34-year-old had suffered serious injuries to his face, which was bruised, his nose was broken and there was also a suspected concussion. The alleged assailant – a 24-year-old – was stopped in the hotel lobby.
Different versions
The two men gave differing statements about the course of the brawl. The suspect claimed that the later victim wanted to give him an injection and that he was only defending himself. The 34-year-old, for his part, claimed that cash, clothing and a mobile phone had been stolen from him. When he asked the 24-year-old about this fact, he immediately hit him.
A syringe was eventually secured in the bathroom, but it was unused. The victim was taken to hospital and the suspect was arrested.
