Russia and Ukraine soon exchanged prisoners of war again. “Today we brought back 50 Ukrainian fighters from Russian captivity,” the head of Ukraine’s presidential office, Andriy Yermak, said Thursday. These are national guards, sailors, border guards and soldiers.
On the Russian side, the chief of the occupation of Donetsk dispatched from Moscow, Denis Puschilin, had previously informed about the exchange, which was also later confirmed by the Russian Defense Ministry.
The warring states now exchange prisoners of war more frequently. A total of 71 prisoners were only released on Wednesday.
1269 Ukraine now released
According to the Ukrainian coordination staff, a total of 1,269 Ukrainians have already been released. This fuels rumors of intensified negotiations between the warring parties.
Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine nine months ago and continues to occupy large parts of the neighboring country.
