With a clear sky and no wind, minus degrees were measured at all 280 weather stations of the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG). It froze especially in the Salzburger Land Lungern and in Lower Austria.
Sometimes there were severe frosts with temperatures of minus 20 degrees and below. The coldest place in Salzburg: in St. Michael it was minus 21 degrees. However, it was the coldest with minus 23.9 degrees at the weather station in Schwarzau im Freiwald in the Waldviertel (Lower Austria).
