A 22-year-old from South Styria ran away from a police patrol on Sunday evening at a speed of 220 km/h. Only an accident could stop the man.
A police patrol noticed a car on the A9 motorway around 9 p.m. on Sunday that was driving much too fast in the direction of Slovenia. The officers tried to stop the driver with flashing lights and a siren.

But the 22-year-old didn’t even think about quitting. Instead, he accelerated to over 200 km/h and left the Autobahn at the Vogau exit towards the B67. That’s where it got really dangerous.
With risky overtaking maneuvers he endangered vehicles on both lanes. Police patrols from Leibnitz and Strass joined the pursuit, which ended only in Obervogau.
Accident in Obervogau
Because after a few minutes, the racer had to pay tribute to his excessive speed. He went off the road and ended up with his car in a meadow. The vehicle was badly damaged, but the 22-year-old was unharmed.
He wasn’t drunk. When questioned by police, he stated that his state of fatigue was to blame for his behaviour. The speeder is now listed under both traffic law and criminal law.
