“They are fueling the crisis” – China blames the US for the war in Ukraine

Date:

According to the US government, China is not as cautious about the war in Ukraine as Beijing’s official image repeatedly emphasizes. Reports surfaced a few days ago claiming to have “proof” of state-owned companies supplying the Russian military with necessary “non-lethal” equipment. The reaction of the Chinese government was not long in coming. There is talk of “unfounded suspicions” and “American paranoia”.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning stressed at a press conference on Monday: “The United States is the one who caused the crisis in Ukraine.” They are also “the biggest factor fueling the crisis.” , they only prolonged and intensified the conflict. China will not stand by when the US harms the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies, the spokeswoman announced.

“If the US wants to end the crisis, they must stop arms deliveries”
“If the US really wants to end the crisis quickly and care about the lives of the people of Ukraine, they should stop supplying weapons and profiting from the fighting,” Mao said. The tightening of tone comes just days before a visit from US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who is expected in Beijing on Sunday and Monday. Most recently, in October 2018, a US Secretary of State was a guest there.

In addition to the war in Ukraine, the talks are also about Taiwan. Here, the State Department spokeswoman warned Washington not to interfere in “internal affairs.” The Taiwan issue is at the center of China’s core interests. The US should not cross “red lines” here. The Chinese leadership considers the democratic island republic as part of the People’s Republic and threatens to conquer it. The island, on the other hand, has long seen itself as independent. The US is supplying weapons so that the Taiwanese can defend themselves.

US general expects war in Taiwan in 2025
On Friday, a four-star U.S. Air Force general issued a statement: Expect war with China by 2025. “I hope I’m wrong,” Gen. Mike Minihan wrote in a Friday memo already drafted Feb. 1. and intended for all commanders of Air Mobility Command. “My gut feeling tells me we will be fighting in 2025.”
