A serious forest accident occurred in the municipality of Tessenberg in East Tyrol on Friday morning. A 57-year-old man was hit by a falling tree and seriously injured. A fatal sequence of unfortunate circumstances had led to the accident.
On Friday, Romanian workers carried out logging work on a mountainside on behalf of a local forestry company. The accident happened shortly after 11 a.m.: a 21-year-old was about to cut down a tree with a chainsaw. Since the gas ran out, the young man moved away from the already cut down tree.
Suddenly the 21-year-old saw a colleague (57) approaching the tree. He screamed and tried to warn the man. But the 57-year-old apparently didn’t hear him. The next moment the tree tipped over and fell on the worker. He suffered serious injuries and had to be rescued from the steep terrain with a rope. The man was flown to Lienz hospital.
