19 cars on fire – dust storm caused pile-up in Hungary

A dust storm caused an accident drama on a motorway in Hungary: dozens of vehicles collided on Saturday afternoon because the drivers suffered from poor visibility. One person was killed in the chain collision. Nearly 40 people had to be hospitalized with injuries – many of them children.

On the M1 motorway, which connects Budapest to Vienna, a storm raged on Saturday afternoon, which, according to media reports, suddenly caused a cloud of sand and dust. 42 vehicles, including five trucks, are believed to have collided with each other due to poor visibility. 19 vehicles caught fire.

As police announced late Saturday night, a body was found in one of the vehicles that had burst into flames in the collision. 39 people, including ten children, were injured and taken to hospitals.
