Around 6:55 a.m. on Sunday morning, a fire suddenly started in the yard of a farm in Wolfsberg. A polyester calf shelter was on fire. The Wolfsberg fire brigade had to turn out.
The farmer reacted quickly and tried to put out the fire with a hand fire extinguisher. He then alerted the fire brigade, who were able to quickly contain the fire.
Chemical reaction caused fire
The animals could be removed from the stable in time. According to the police, the 42-year-old owner believes that a chemical reaction could be the cause of the fire. “The farmer mixed lime with straw. Lime is often added to straw to disinfect the stable. However, it was probably too dry, ie not moistened with enough water – that would have led to a chemical reaction,” explains a police officer from Wolfsberg.
The exact amount of damage is not yet known. “The amount of damage must amount to several hundred euros.”
