The Russian human rights organization Gulagu.net has published testimonies from former mercenaries of the notorious Wagner group, who admit to the murders of children in the Ukrainian cities of Soledar and Bakhmut. “Confessions alone are not enough,” snapped Ukraine’s presidential office head Andriy Yermak, calling for those responsible to be punished.
The human rights organization founded by Vladimir Osechkin published testimonies of former Russian prisoners Asmat Uldarov and Aleksey Savichev, who had been recruited through the prison by Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin for the war in Ukraine. They survived the deployment to the front and have already been pardoned by decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
‘Murdered residents of an entire apartment building’
Savichev said about 70 Russian ex-prisoners were shot in Ukraine in his presence for refusing to obey orders. He also admitted that in January this year he was ordered to throw 30 F1 grenades into a pit in the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut, where there were dead and wounded Ukrainians and Russians.
To cover the last traces, he then doused the remains of about 60 people with petrol and set them on fire. On camera, Savichev also said that he had killed 10 youths and more than 20 unarmed Ukrainians on orders from above. He was also ordered to “clean” an entire residential building. He therefore killed all the inhabitants of this house.
Incredible orders from above
Uldarov reported killing children by order in Soledar and Bakhmut. Wagner’s mercenaries were ordered to “destroy everything and everyone”: men, women, the elderly and children. He also just shot a girl of about six years old.
Uldarov and Savichev also admitted that the Wagner group threatened to kill their own mercenaries if they spoke to journalists. They were also sure that Prigozhin followed Putin’s orders and that Russia would never investigate war crimes in Ukraine.
Both ex-mercenaries also confirmed the numerous losses in their own ranks. According to Uldarov, he witnessed how the relatives of the deceased Wagner fighters were given empty zinc coffins for burial – also in the Rostov region.
