British Prime Minister, Boris Johnsonhas acknowledged that the Conservatives have passed “hard” results but also “progress”, in the municipal elections partial elections held this Thursday in the United Kingdom, with the counting of votes continuing.
Asked by journalists at an event in London, Johnson has assured that he will take responsibility for his party’s setback, especially in the capital, partly as a result of the scandal for the illegal parties in his office and residence in Downing Street during the pandemic.
The head of the government, who refused to resign after being fined for violating anti-covid regulations, he claims the losses in these local elections send a clear “message” from voters that they want the government to focus “on the big issues that affect them”.
The priorities, he specifies, are “moving the country forward, resolving the effects of Covid and its impact on the economy, addressing the energy supply shortfalls causing the inflation spike, and continuing the plan to create qualified employment with high salaries”.
Johnson warns that the situation will be “difficult” for civilians in the near term, but emphasized that the government, with him at the helm, is “absolutely determined to move forward with all the compassion and ingenuity” it has to help them.
Asked about the possibility that Sinn Fein Republicans (supporters of the reunification of the island of Ireland) win Northern Ireland’s autonomous elections, the Conservative leader argues that “the most important thing is to maintain the balance forged within the Good Friday Agreement (of 1997) for all communities support” of the British province.
