For all Austrians who headed south on Saturday morning, it was time to wait: According to the ÖAMTC, it was mainly stuck in Salzburg. There it was slow for all holidaymakers, in parts at the Walserberg border crossing (A1) and on the Tauernautobahn (A10) to Anif and also for the St. Michael toll station. There was also a loss of time in Carinthia and Styria.
In Carinthia, a seven-kilometre long traffic jam formed in front of the Karawankentunnel (A11) on Saturday morning. Around 10:00 am the time lost there was an hour. Also on the Pyhrn Autobahn (A9) was the message “Please wait!”, before the Spielfeld border crossing and then before a construction site near Maribor.
Take regular breaks and stops
At the Gruskovje/Macelj border crossing, Slovenia/Croatia, a time loss of more than an hour had to be planned, and that trend continues. The ÖAMTC traffic experts called on motorists to make regular breaks and stopovers and, given the high temperatures, to have enough to drink.
