The heads of the replacement offices of the Ukrainian army have been fired due to bribery

Date:

In Ukraine, several heads of regional military replacement agencies have now been fired on suspicion of corruption. President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this on Telegram on Friday, speaking of “cynicism and corruption”.

“This system should be run by people who know exactly what war means and why cynicism and corruption in wartime mean treason,” Zelenskyy said in his video address. 112 criminal proceedings have already been initiated against employees of military replacement offices.

Several thousand euros due to alleged unfitness for military service
The case of the already dismissed head of the military service in the Black Sea region of Odessa had previously caused a stir. He is said to have earned several million euros in bribes since the start of the war. The prices paid for documents of incapacity for military service and provisions are said to be several thousand euros.

Decisive fight promised
Corruption is repeatedly exposed in Ukraine. According to reports, court chairman Vsevolod Knyasyev was arrested in May when he accepted a bribe of almost three million dollars (about €2.74 million). Zelenskyi had repeatedly promised a more determined fight against corruption, which is also a requirement of the European Union, so that Ukraine can join the alliance.
