Spectacular fire brigade operation Wednesday afternoon in Bad Aussee (Styria): a tool shed was completely on fire, two petrol cans are believed to have exploded. In Gröbming, an excavator went up in flames in a steep stretch of forest.
The alarm message for the fire brigade caused horror: a residential building and a farm would burn down after an explosion! But luckily it didn’t get that bad.
A Facebook video from the Bad Aussee Volunteer Fire Brigade:
In the Strassen district, next to two stables and a residential building, a tool shed was on fire, reports section fire chief Werner Fischer. Also the first reports of dust explosions are probably incorrect. According to Fischer, two jerry cans containing gasoline may have exploded in the building in front of the lawnmower.
The fire was extinguished after more than two hours. There were no injuries. Five fire brigades with 88 people and 15 vehicles were deployed, as well as the Red Cross and the police.
Excavator was on fire: helicopter in the firefighting operation
There was also a fire in Gröbming on Wednesday afternoon: in the Rabenkogelgraben district, a 37-year-old from the Liezen district was working with a mobile excavator when it caught fire around 1 pm.
The Gröbming fire brigade was initially unable to drive in due to the steep forest road. Two tractors brought water into the forest with manure barrels, later an army and a police helicopter brought the water to a basin built on the mountain.

The excavator burned out completely. The damage amounted to approximately 100,000 euros, according to the police.
