In Germany, bomb threats were again received on Tuesday against public institutions in several states. In Berlin, the central station, the RTL broadcaster and the Willy Brandt House, the federal headquarters of the ruling SPD party, were hit, police said. Schools were also hit again.
An Interior Ministry spokeswoman said: “Whether the threats are aimed at an extremist target or are free riders calling themselves Hamas to increase the effectiveness of their threats cannot be definitively assessed at this time.”
Should resentment be stirred up against Israel?
In this context, the spokeswoman also referred to similar threats in France, where, for example, the Palace of Versailles had to be evacuated repeatedly for days. It is unclear whether there is a link between the individual cases in Germany. It could possibly be about weakening the population’s sense of security and fueling dissatisfaction with Israel, security circles told the German Press Agency.
On Monday there were already bomb threats against several schools in several German states and against the headquarters of the public television channel ZDF in Mainz.
In Germany, a bomb threat often falls under the criminal offense of disturbing public peace by threatening to commit crimes (Article 126 of the Criminal Code (StGB)). This can lead to fines or even several years in prison.
