About 180,000 people in Austria suffer from alopecia, that is, chronic hair loss. Two affected Carinthians – wig maker and model Janin Baumann and former ‘Krone’ editor Martin Radinger – talk about their experiences with this currently incurable disease.
Janin Baumann caused a stir with a large poster at her wig studio in Klagenfurt. It shows her as a model, naked, hairless, with a wig in her mouth. This apparently made some people angry and they filed a complaint with the Advertising Council. And he condemned the poster.
Baumann makes this decision calmly because she wants to use her self-portrait to draw attention to the disease alopecia, chronic hair loss, that affects her. Like an estimated 180,000 people of all ages in Austria. Just like me, the writer of these lines. That’s why I wanted to meet Janin to exchange ideas and experiences – ie a meeting of stakeholders.
