After a brutal attack at a Corona demonstration in Vienna in February, the police are looking for one of the participants. The suspect allegedly jumped into the stomach of a police officer with full force when she tried to arrest him.
Opponents of Covid measures and Corona deniers took to the streets with whistles, drums, fireworks and loud music. The majority took place in the federal capital, where tens of thousands regularly marched. The closer the intended vaccination obligation got, the more tense the situation at the rallies became.
Man fled after attack
On February 12, around 5:38 p.m. at the Universitätsring, a policewoman was brutally attacked. When the agent tried to identify and then arrest a participant during a demo, the hitherto unknown pushed her away and jumped her in the stomach with full force. The woman was injured in the violence and collapsed. The aggressive demo contestant fled.
The Vienna police are now asking for the help of the population. A photo of the alleged perpetrator has been published on behalf of the Public Prosecution Service. Information (also anonymously) can be requested from the Commander City Police in the city center, Crime, on telephone number 01-31310-99-21810
60 police officers injured in 2021 demo operations
The demonstrations in 2021 in particular presented special challenges for the police. Police officers worked nearly 600,000 hours. That cost 20 million euros. Not all meetings were peaceful. There were 550 criminal charges. In total, 200 people were arrested under the Code of Criminal Procedure and more than 200 protesters under the Criminal Code. According to the Interior Ministry, 60 police officers were injured last year.
