No peace at the airline – now Lufthansa flight attendants want to strike

Date:

There is no peace at airline Lufthansa: after the ground staff of the German parent company AUA ended their warning strike on Saturday, the flight attendants announced that they would stop working next week.

The cabin union UFO has called on approximately 19,000 flight attendants from Lufthansa and Lufthansa Cityline to go on strike on Tuesday and Wednesday. All departures from Frankfurt will cease on Tuesday from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. and all departures from Munich on Wednesday, UFO announced on Saturday evening.

The staff wants a share in the group’s record results
The union explained that the company had only announced a record result of almost 1.7 billion euros in net profit on Thursday. This is said to be the third best in the company’s history. “The cabin must now also be involved in this success and the concessions made during the Corona crisis must be sufficiently compensated,” said UFO board chairman Vázquez Bürger.

Already several strikes in the company
UFO demands 15 percent more money for a contract term of 18 months. They also want to realize an inflation compensation bonus of 3,000 euros and higher allowances. The Lufthansa Group is struggling with collective labor agreement disputes in several areas: In addition to the ground crew, the employees of the freight subsidiary Lufthansa Cargo had also stopped working. There were also strikes at Lufthansa Technik, Lufthansa Aviation Training and Lufthansa Technical Training.
