Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) is currently participating in the EU summit in Brussels. An oops happened there on Thursday afternoon: the politician got a microphone in the face during an interview. He was just about to discuss the important issues from the Austrian perspective.
He took the incident with humor, as can be seen in a video posted by a journalist on platform X. Nehammer looks surprised and smiles into the camera. The users on X were also amused by the little incident. “Sorry, it was my first day as a sound assistant,” one user wrote. “The sound assistant came out fine without a black eye,” said another.
Here you can see the video posted on the X platform.
“Elegantly resolved”
“Elegantly resolved,” it says elsewhere. “Great response. Hats off.” The content of the EU summit on Thursday and Friday will include the war in Ukraine, the EU accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina and the war in the Middle East. The central question for the Austrian government is whether the heads of state or government will give the green light for the accession negotiations.
Nehammer also wants the European Council to more clearly condemn and name the rape of Israeli women by Hamas fighters. “It is now documented and proven that Hamas uses sexual violence against women. In my opinion, it should be possible to find this reflected in the conclusions (of the EU summit; note),” the head of government said. The war in the Middle East will probably be one of the most difficult issues to reach agreement on.
