It was a spectacle that the Mostviertler family could not shake off: their two-year-old cat “Snow White” was brutally killed by a dog in front of their eyes.
A neighbor’s hunting dog was responsible. “They came home and the dog immediately jumped out of the trunk,” says the shocked owner. Shortly afterwards he grabbed the surprised cat – he didn’t stand a chance.
Justice for ‘Snow White’
Since then, people in the town of 3,000 in the western part of the state have hoped for one thing above all: justice. But they were rejected at the town hall: “We wanted the dog to be on a leash and in a muzzle, after all, he could have a child next to him. Many feel insecure. “But we were waved away and pointed out that the owner was a hunter and therefore fell under the exception of the law on dog ownership,” said the owner of “Snow White”.
The office of the responsible state councilor Christoph Luisser contradicts this: “It is the owner’s responsibility to ensure that his dog does not pose any danger.” From a legal perspective, the family can file claims for damages.
