What next with the illegal tent camps in the Tyrolean capital? The city says the camping law does not apply to emergency housing in Innsbruck-Arzl. It’s the next authority’s turn, but this is back to square one and some questions need to be clarified.
Tents, sleeping bags and all kinds of belongings show that many people have found a temporary ‘home’ in the Arzl district. For example, at the viaduct on Haller Straße, near the intersection with Schusterbergweg and Schützenstraße, the “Krone” was reported.
The hygienic conditions and safety are questionable, the busy traffic on Haller Straße rushes by. The mobile monitoring group started a monitoring campaign in March and there was a ‘clean-up period’. But also “tactfulness”: you don’t want to just throw your meager possessions in the trash.
Property Interference Lawsuit – But Who Should It Be Served On?
What is clear is that the tent camps still exist. The MÜG now admits: “It has turned out that we cannot intervene according to the Tyrolean Camping Act, because it is not a tourist practice.” In the urban area, the Innsbruck district office ensures conservation.
But this authority is again at the beginning of the problem. “It would make sense to file a lawsuit against property interference. But the question arises to whom I can deliver this,” explains Markus Leuthold from the construction authority of the construction district. Local inspections by the “Krone” showed that people often only sleep a few hours there.
Neighbors testify to the inconspicuous behavior of people. A witness believes he knows that there is a woman among them who works at a social institution. The MÜG spoke about Eastern Europeans looking for work. These people generally avoid nearby emergency shelters.
