Trend “Plancha grilling” – Weber presents gas barbecues as planchas for the first time

Date:

Culinary playing field from Mediterranean to hearty: Viva la Vida! Mediterranean plancha grilling, that is, grilling on a hot plate, has spread the trend feelers from Spain and France to German-speaking countries. Weber responded to this trend as early as 2023 with extra-large and heat-optimized grill plates as an accessory for various grills. This year, the global BBQ market leader presents the new gas grill “Weber SLATE GP Premium Plancha”: the first grill from Weber with a built-in plancha instead of a grill.

Pure roasted aromas
Scrambled eggs with crispy bacon, toasted Italian panini and juicy burgers with caramelized onions are just some of the many delicacies that can be prepared on it: “Small grilled food in particular is ideal for grilling on the plancha, because nothing can fall through the grill. The smash trend, which comes from the US, is also popular: smashed burgers, smashed cheese and smashed avocado – the list is long. Grilled food is pressed onto the grill using a grill plate press to obtain even more roasted aromas,” says Yulia Haybäck, Weber grill master.

A hot potato
Within ten minutes the plancha reaches high temperatures of over 260 °C.The “Weber Slate GP Premium Plancha” is made of porcelain-enameled cast iron and produces consistently even heat across the entire grilling surface. The grill works on gas and is available in four different sizes: depending on the version, there are even multiple burners so that the same plancha can work with different heat zones. This is ideal for anyone who wants to grill fish or steak and cook vegetables at the same time. When it comes to the plancha, Weber relies above all on simple, intuitive operation and precise heat control.

Smart grilling experiences
The plancha impresses with a modern, digital temperature display and is also compatible with the smart Weber Connect technology. This free app from Weber contains more than 800 grilled dishes: there are no limits to your creativity for delicious recipes and special creations. Step-by-step instructions guarantee restaurant-quality grilled dishes. If you also work with a smart core temperature sensor, you can also achieve the correct cooking levels for meat and fish.

Practical equipment
The grill surface is corrosion-resistant, rust-repellent and the special surface prevents food from sticking, making it particularly easy to clean. The large grease collection system prevents spills and collects the grease effectively. There are two compact versions with grill surfaces of 43 and 56 centimeters, which also have adjustable feet: perfect for picnics as well as a table surface. There is also the stand-alone plancha: it is distinguished not only by the fixed stand system with serving table, but also by the significantly larger grilling surface (76 cm), optionally with side hob: preparing, grilling, serving and cleaning – all directly on site of the event.

More big news from Weber
With just the plancha, the barbecue year 2024 is not over yet. While everything at Weber started in Chicago in 1952 with George Stephen’s idea to transform a simple ship’s buoy into a kettle grill, this year Weber presents the most modern SmartControl gas grill in the entire history of the company: the “Summit FS38X” , for restaurant quality grilled dishes and with a powerful infrared searing zone for temperatures up to over 815 °C, the likes of which the BBQ market has never seen before. It uses the heat from above for even better grilling results without contact with flames.

Moreover: with the “Weber BBQ Kitchen”, Weber is entering the market for outdoor kitchens. A product created by a team of Austrian entrepreneurs, including Matthias Fuchs and Benedikt Mitterlehner, both directors of the popular Weber Original Stores.

There is also colorful news in the electric grill segment, the ‘Lumin’ now also shines in fresh mint green. All fans of recipe books will get their money’s worth with the new book “Weber’s Ultimate Heat”: the first barbecue book that addresses the correct use of high temperatures from scratch. Because: “More is not always more,” say the grill masters behind Weber. All new products are available now or soon on weber.com and in all Weber Original stores.
