The bang was as loud as a bomb. An object crashed through the roof of a family in Naples, Florida, breaking through two floors and landing in the basement. It turned out to be an unwanted ‘delivery’ from the International Space Station (ISS), which could now lead to NASA being sued for damages.
In March, NASA announced that several tons of “space junk” would enter Earth’s orbit and “burn harmlessly over the next few years.” The only problem: a piece of metal from the ISS weighing about 0.7 kilograms fell from the sky, directly over the west coast of Florida, and hit Alejandro Otero’s house.
In this message you can see the damage to Otero’s house:
Lawyer: ‘It almost became a catastrophe’
The affected person wrote on the news platform
Because he received no response or offer of compensation after his complaint to NASA, he hired attorney Mica Nguyen Worthy. He is already preparing a lawsuit: “It almost became a catastrophe. All waste is a very serious matter. If this incident had occurred in another country, the United States would have been responsible for repairing the damage. This is also what my mandates, the Oteros, demand.”
According to an April press release from NASA, the object is the remains of a battery pack used to power the space station. But Jimi Russell, spokesperson for NASA’s Space Operations Mission, declined to comment further to “Fox Digital” – “because it’s probably a lawsuit.”
