Shortly before midnight, the troops of the East Styrian fire brigades of Vorau, Eichberg and Rohrbach an der Lafnitz were awakened from their sleep: a farmhouse was on fire in the Vorau district of Puchegg.
For reasons that are still unclear, the farm building caught fire on Monday evening. In addition to the responsible fire brigade of Vorau, the neighboring fire brigades of Eichberg and Rohrbach an der Lafnitz were called to the fire to support the local forces.
The flames threatened to spread to the house
When the emergency services arrived, the stable building was already completely ablaze and the flames threatened to spread to the adjacent residential building. In order to transport extra water, the operational management alerted the FF Pöllau with 14,000 liters of extinguishing water.
The stable burned to the ground, the adjacent residential building was saved from burning down thanks to the rapid and extensive assistance provided by the fire brigade, but is currently uninhabitable according to the police.
No one was injured and the owners were not home. The extent of the material damage is still unclear; the State Criminal Investigation Department has taken over the investigation into the cause.
