A woman (35) and a man (29) died when a balcony collapsed in Scampia near Naples. Thirteen other people were injured, including seven children between the ages of two and eight. They suffered trauma, broken bones and bruises.
The accident happened late Monday in Scampia near Naples, near the former social housing complex “Le Vele” (The Sails), which was a negative symbol of gang crime and drug trafficking. A balcony on the third floor of a building collapsed and fell onto a lower balcony. There were a few people present at the time.

Cause still unclear
The collapse of the balcony caused panic. A 29-year-old man died in the impact and a 35-year-old woman died in hospital from her serious injuries.
In addition, 13 people were injured, including seven children. The fire department had to evacuate parts of the building and the cause of the accident is still being determined.
