Just saved: mountaineers wanted to climb the Matterhorn in low shoes

Date:

Due to an incredibly negligent action, two climbers had to be rescued from the Matterhorn. They were equipped only with light shoes and thin training pants.

The two ‘mountaineers’ from Vietnam were trapped for fourteen hours before they were narrowly saved from death by severe hypothermia. The rescue of the two athletes was particularly challenging due to the extreme weather conditions. Neither air nor land rescue was possible.

Rescuers had to abseil
Those in distress in the mountains were blocked in impassable terrain below the normal route. Finally, three specialists decided to climb the Matterhorn on foot to the accident site. They were exposed to snow, wind, ice, fog and cold. At over 3,500 metres they discovered the two low-shoe mountaineers in distress.

The rescuers had to abseil down to them and pull the duo back onto the normal route using a tow rope, followed by an extremely difficult descent to the winter camp in a hut.

Equipment “far away from sturdy mountain boots”
“They were elevated trekking boots, but far from sturdy mountain boots,” the press spokesman for the mountain rescue team told “Blick” in horror. When they arrived at the winter camp at the Hörnlihütte (there is currently only one emergency room open), the rescuers and mountaineers in need were able to seek shelter.

Due to the explosive weather conditions, they remained there until 2:00 am before a twin-wing helicopter was able to safely bring them down to the valley.
