A monk has been murdered in a Spanish monastery. Three other clerics were also injured in the attack by an unknown person.
The crime scene was the Santo Espíritu Monastery in Gilet near Valencia in eastern Spain. According to the responsible police unit, the perpetrator is being sought. It is believed to be in the surrounding mountains.
A spokesperson for the Archdiocese of Valencia told Europa Press that someone entered the monastery in the morning and attacked the clergy in their rooms. A total of seven clerics were attacked. The fatal victim was 76 years old. The ages of the three injured were given as 57, 66 and 95.
Initially, nothing was disclosed about the possible background to the crime. It was also not known whether the perpetrator used weapons in the attack.
