After more than 100 years of operation, the Austrian Federal Railways railway tunnel is currently in need of extensive renovation. The working conditions are not easy. The important connection will therefore be closed until the summer. A local “Krone” inspection.
About 50 employees have been working on the renovation of the Tauern Tunnel of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) for a month. 24 hours a day, seven days a week in shifts until the end of July. Then the first phase of the major renovation of the building, which was completed in 1909, must be completed and trains can once again run unhindered through the Tauern. “The schedule is sporty, but easily achievable,” reports ÖBB project manager Christiane Schiavinato. No unexpected difficulties have yet arisen that could delay the work.
