Trial in St. Pölten – friend sent to death with 2.13 per mille

Date:

Alcoholic driver (21) in court for culpable homicide. He left the road with a blood alcohol level of 2.13 and his best friend (19), who was a passenger in the car, died. Conditional detention.

A 21-year-old from Lower Austria will never forget March 11: “I changed everything with a stupid mistake,” he notes broken. “And I lost my best friend with it!”

Passenger thrown from car
The Mostviertler had hit the road with his car at 2.13 per mille and skidded. After flipping over several times, the car came to a stop in a meadow. Only then did the young driver realize that his best friend was no longer sitting next to him. The 19-year-old was thrown from the car in the accident and died on the spot, with minor injuries. Now the 21-year-old has been charged with wrongful death in the regional court of St. Pölten.

Never drank alcohol otherwise
The two friends were like brothers and did a lot together. This was also the case on March 11, when they spontaneously decided to have a drink. The suspect cannot explain why the afternoon escalated in terms of alcohol consumption. As a novice with a driver’s license, he further practiced abstinence. In the end, he was persuaded to get behind the wheel himself. A grave mistake, which he must pay with eight months in prison and a fine. “The greatest punishment is the death of his friend,” the lawyer said.
