And offers help – after the odyssey in Tyrol, the airline apologizes

Date:

As reported, passengers wanting to get from Innsbruck to London were stuck at the Tyrolean capital’s airport for about 28 hours on Epiphany. Now the airline is speaking out – and even offering help to those affected!

While boarding, the passengers received the bad news: the plane has a technical defect and will not take off for the time being. With all luggage already on the plane, passengers had to remain within the area – meaning they could not leave the airport.

“I saw children crying”
Technicians were then flown in from London to ensure a quick repair. But that wasn’t enough time either and a rescue flight at 9.45pm could not get the passengers to London. They were stranded in Innsbruck until 1:30 p.m. Then the return flight worked.

“Although we received meal vouchers, the airline did not arrange overnight stays in the hotel for us. I saw children crying, there were people in wheelchairs – it was crazy,” said a passenger in an interview with the “Krone”.

Bad weather, ban on night flights
Now, a few days later, airline easyJet has spoken out. “We apologize that flight EZY8694 from Innsbruck to London Gatwick was postponed overnight on Monday 6 January due to a technical problem with the aircraft. Unfortunately, the replacement aircraft from London Gatwick was delayed due to bad weather, meaning the flight had to be postponed until the next day due to the ban on night flights at Innsbruck Airport,” explains Simon Zika from Ecker & Partner Public Work and Public. Affairs GmbH at the “Krone”.

“The safety of everyone is our top priority”
He continued: “We have made every effort to minimize the impact of the disruption on our customers and have provided refreshment vouchers, meals and hotel accommodation at the airport, subject to availability. We have also informed all self-booked customers that they will receive a refund.” The safety of all customers and crew is easyJet’s top priority; the airline manages its aircraft fleet in strict accordance with all manufacturer guidelines.

Then there is another offer of help. “Passengers on this flight can also contact us directly. We enjoy working with easyJet customer service,” says Zika. Contact details: www.eup.at, +43 1 59932-0, office@eup.at
