Dangerous Cargo – India: Freight ship with 640 containers

Date:

Difficult accident for the Indian coast: a cargo ship with 640 containers has fallen, partly with a dangerous load on board. The crew of 24 crew members was saved.

The ship, which drove under the flag of the West African country Liberia, was with 640 containers, including 13 with a dangerous load, off the coast of the Indian state of Kerala in the south of the state, the Indian Ministry of Defense announced on Sunday. The ministry did not explain what the indictment was.

Schiff had a slope when the emergency services arrived
The ship came in difficulties on Saturday and carried out an emergency call, explained the Indian Marine. When the navy arrived, it was in a dangerous tendency. All 24 crew members were saved, the Ministry of Defense said. The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the Navy would have saved seafarers from Georgia, Russia, Ukraine and the Philippines.

Twelve containers with calcium carbide on board
Among the sunken containers were also twelve in which calcium carbide was transported. The substance is used in the chemical industry for the production of fertilizer. Given the sensitive ecosystem on the Kerala coast, the coast guard tries to limit pollution, the navy said.

In addition, approximately 370 tonnes of fuel and oil were transported. The Coast Guard announced that it had used a “identification system”, but “so far no oil pollution has been reported”.
