In the social market – price increases cause food shortages

Date:

The number of customers at VinziMarkt Graz has risen to 180 people per day. At the same time, the number of donations in kind fell from two tons per day to 1.8. The VinziMarkt therefore urgently asks for donations in kind.

More and more areas of everyday life are being affected by price increases. A particularly sensitive issue is the basic supply of food and hygiene products. “Our customers don’t just come to VinziMarkt to shop. Many also need a place where they can talk about their worries and existential fears. I always try to make time for it”, says Sigrid Wimmer, manager of VinziMarkt.

Fresh products are especially scarce
Up to 180 people shop here every day, an average of 20 more than in the spring. At the same time, however, the amount of donations in kind has also decreased. Fresh products, such as fruit and vegetables, and basic food in particular are becoming scarce.

“Donations of fruit and vegetables, but also of flour, pasta, sugar and non-perishable foodstuffs have decreased. We can still take care of everyone who needs our help, but we don’t know how long this can continue,” emphasizes Amrita Böker, coordinator of VinziWerke.

What is urgently needed?
The VinziMarkt now hopes for support from the population. Gifts in kind can be brought to VinziMarkt Graz, Karl-Morre-Straße 9, Karl-Morre-Straße 9, at any time during opening hours (Monday to Wednesday and Friday from 8 am to 12.30 pm, Thursday from 1 pm to 4 pm, Saturday from 8.30 am to 12 noon):

  • Basic foods, such as flour, sugar, pasta
  • Fresh products such as fruits and vegetables
  • Canned or frozen food
  • Hygienic items such as shower gel, toothpaste
