Dreaded congestion chaos – the strongest travel weekend of the summer is just around the corner

Date:

One of the busiest weekends this summer is just around the corner: ARBÖ warned about this on Tuesday. The start of the holidays in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, the Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix at the Hungaro Ring near Budapest and the Austrian Football League (AFL) final on Saturday in St. Pölten – the coincidence of these events brings countless travelers to the streets.

The longest traffic jams and delays of the year so far on the transit routes, but also at the borders, were forecast for next weekend. The main traffic jam day will probably be Saturday. Already in the early morning hours there are traffic jams to the south, but also to the north, on the transit routes in the west of Austria.

The ARBÖ listed the most likely traffic jams:

    • Brenner motorway (A13), in front of the Schönberg toll station and the construction site between Brennersee and Nösslach
    • Fernpass-Straße (B179), everywhere and especially for the border tunnel Vils/Füssen and the Lermooser tunnel
    • Innkreisautobahn (A8), in the construction area between Ort and Schärding and before the border crossing Suben
    • Inntalautobahn (A12) for the border crossing Kufstein/Kiefersfelden and the construction site at Wörgl and in the vicinity of Innsbruck
    • Karawanken Autobahn (A11), before the Karawanken Tunnel border crossing
    • Mieminger Straße (B189), in front of the construction site at Obsteig

    • Pyhrnautobahn (A9), for the construction sites at Inzersdorf, Traboch and Übelbach and for the Spielfeld border crossing
    • Tauernautobahn (A10), in the vicinity of Salzburg and the Tauern summit route between Eben and Rennweg, as well as in the vicinity of Villach

Motorsport fans on the move
Experience shows that Formula 1 fans will mainly be on the western motorway (A1), the Vienna outer ring motorway (A21) and the eastern motorway (A4) towards Hungary on Saturday and Sunday. Traffic jam warnings are issued at the individual construction site areas along the route.

Danger of traffic jams around St. Pölten
The “Austrian Bowl”, the final of the Austrian football competition, will take place on Saturday at the NV Stadium in St. Pölten. According to ARBÖ, experience has shown that some fans would travel with their own vehicle. Therefore, there is a warning about traffic jams in the area of the NV-Arena, as well as on the Kremser Schnellstraße (S33) before the Sankt Pölten/Nord exit and on the western autobahn before the Sankt Pölten interchange. The traffic of Formula 1 fans also mixes on the A1.
