In Southern California, a woman was impaled by an umbrella on Garden City Beach in Horry County. It had broken free from its anchorage in the wind and had hit Tammy Perreault in the chest with the pointed end of the pole. According to forensics, the 63-year-old died in hospital about an hour later.
Sherry White, one of the victim’s closest friends, was there when the tragic accident happened. “A gust of wind carried the wing through the air and it just kept moving and moving. Everyone said ‘squat’ and so did we, but unfortunately Tammy was in the firing line,” White told WMBF News.
Perreault was taken to a nearby hospital with chest trauma but could not be rescued. The accident happened on Wednesday.
