Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen is back in service after his hiking accident on the Kaunergrat last Sunday. He announced this on Friday afternoon on the social media platform TikTok.
There he shared an interview with himself: Van der Bellen asked the questions in a jacket in High German, the answers were given by a “private” Federal President in a shirt, with a slight graze on his cheek and in the Tyrolean dialect. The accident was “nid a so wild gwest” (not so wild, mind you), he slipped while walking.
“Fully motivated for work”
As reported, Alexander Van der Bellen was taken to hospital on Sunday, where he was allowed out again on Monday. He slipped while hiking on the Kaunergrat and suffered abrasions and a minor concussion. Due to these injuries, the incumbent Federal President had to take it easy for a few days and canceled appointments, including participation in the Alpach Forum. On Friday, Van der Bellen was “fully motivated for work” again, as the video says.
This work includes collecting statements of support for the re-candidate so that the election proposal can be submitted to the federal electoral authority by next Friday. To date (as of August 26), four candidates have announced that they have the needed 6,000 signatures: musician and city councilor Dominik Wlazny (aka Marco Pogo), lawyer and ex-Krone columnist Tassilo Wallentin, ex-politician and blogger Gerald Grosz and MFG chairman Michael Brunner.
