Marisol Garmendia becomes the socialist candidate for mayor of San Sebastian

The militants have expressed their support for whoever has led the socialist team in the capital Gipuzkoa in recent years. Garmendia has received 222 votes, while Odón Elorza has received the support of 115 militants, 34%.

Marisol Garmendia has been proclaimed winner of the primaries of PSE-EE of San Sebastian with 222 votes, which corresponds to 66% of the votes, beat Odon Elorza who obtained 115 votes, i.e. the 3. 4%. In this way, the socialist spokesman in the city council becomes the socialist candidate for mayor of San Sebastián.

338 militants (76% of the militants) went to vote today at the three San Sebastián Socialists headquarters in San Sebastián: in the center, in the Enrique Casas Association; in Intxaurrondo, in the Margarita Nelken Group and in Altza, in the Luis Arbella Group.

The primary trial began on September 27, after both candidates complied with the PSOE’s federal statutes. Both Marisol Garmendia and Odón Elorza presented the maximum number of approvals to make their respective candidacies official for the socialist primaries in San Sebastián. Each candidate had to provide between 12% and 15% guarantees. This was the first time San Sebastian’s PSE-EE had faced a primary.

Garmindia: “I don’t do vintage politics”

Marisol Garmendia, the current Socialist number one in San Sebastián City Council and Deputy Mayor, has assured during the campaign that she will respect the right of any male or female colleague to appear, although she believed that “it is time to renew leadership” of the PSE-EE in San Sebastián. “I don’t do old-fashioned politics, everyone has their place and their time and now it’s my turn,” he emphasized as soon as he heard of Elorza’s candidacy.

In his latest media appearance this week, he pointed out that the primary process has been “absolutely enriching” for his candidacy, allowing them to be “very close” to the militants and the “socialist family.” . He has assured that he does not see himself as the winner of the vote.

In his opinion, it is “essential” that both his candidacy and Elorza’s are based on “a public, sincere and clear commitment”. “I do it without hesitation. Whoever wins will be my candidate in the municipal elections in May. Without any doubts or conditions,” he emphasized.
