After state elections were held in Lower Austria on Sunday, there is only a short breathing space until the next vote in Austria, as two new dates are already scheduled for spring: Carinthia will vote on March 5 and Salzburg will follow on April 23 . A number of other elections will take place by 2025, including the National Council election in 2024.
After Carinthia and Salzburg, there will be ÖH elections in May this year. The autumn of 2023 is then – if there are no earlier dates – optional.
Strong election year 2024
2024 will be a strong election year: the EU elections will take place in the spring and the next national council elections in September 2024 at the latest, as well as the state elections in Vorarlberg (October) and Styria (November). This means that in 2024 the focus of the elections will be in the autumn – provided that the legislature is fully exhausted.
Carinthia and Salzburg follow Lower Austria
In the state elections this spring in Carinthia, a red-black coalition will be put to the test. It will be exciting whether SPÖ governor Peter Kaiser can maintain his rock-solid result of 47.9 percent in 2018. The – currently only – three-party coalition of the ÖVP, the Greens and NEOS is facing the elections in Salzburg for the first time. ÖVP governor Wilfried Haslauer cannot hope for a repeat of the big election victory of 2018.
